Raw Food Diet Tea
Raw food diet tea can be a healthy and delicious aspect of your diet if made properly. When following a raw food diet you only consume plant based foods that haven’t been heated much above body temperature (there are many opinions about what maximum temperature raw food should be heated to, but the general idea is to eat natural foods that have been processed as little as possible). So the normal way to make tea with boiled water obviously doesn’t work if you are on a raw food diet. Instead raw food tea is made with cold water and then heated by the power of the sun. You simply prepare the tea in a glass jar with a lit and leave it in the sun for a couple of hours. This beverage is also known as sun tea.
When deciding what tea leaves to use it really comes down to how strict you are about the raw food principles. Some people will just use any regular tea, while the other extreme is to grow and dry your own herbs. When you buy tea in the store you never really know how it has been processed and traditional black tea contains caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that affects your entire system and is definitely not a recommended part of the raw food diet. So you might want to avoid that and at least go with a decaf option like green tea or herbal tea.
What you need to make your own raw food diet tea:
- A glass jar with a tight-fitting lit
- Clean water (preferably purified or distilled unless the tap water is exceptionally clean where you live)
- Your choice of tea leaves
Instructions:
Simply add water and tea leaves to the glass jar, close the lit and leave it in the sun for 2-3 hours. When you are satisfied with the taste the beverage is ready to serve. Make sure to drink the tea the same day it has been made. It’s best fresh and could make you sick if stored for longer periods because it is a decent breeding ground for bacteria like all other fresh foods.
The health benefits of drinking raw food diet tea are many. First of all it helps you stay hydrated and that’s an important part of any healthy diet. If you go all the way and grow and dry your own tea you will also benefit from getting more of the natural vitamins, antioxidants and other goodies compared to regular tea. And drinking lots of liquid will keep your stomach full and make you less hungry, which often leads to eating less.
