Diet Tips

If you’re looking to lose weight and improve your health, it can be difficult to sort through all the information out there on weight loss. Whether you’re looking for diet advice or healthy diet tips you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few diet tips to help you get organized so that you can achieve the results you want in a reasonable amount of time and in a way that is sustainable.

Diet Tip #1: Set Goals
The first step to take is to set yourself a realistic goal. What is it that you want to achieve with dieting? Some people want to lose weight to look better. Some folks want to lose weight to improve a related health condition like high blood pressure or Type 2 diabetes. In order to maintain your motivation over the long run, it’s important to take some time to really think about what your goals are and why those goals are important. Write your goals down so you can refer to them if you lose your motivation.

As you write down your goals try to categorize them into a few categories. Make short term goals that you think you can accomplish in 30 days or less. An example of a 30-day goal might be to begin an exercise routine and research some nutrition articles to help you find the right kind of diet program. Next, list your mid-range goals that you can accomplish within 3 months. Here you can start to list weight loss goals in terms of number of pounds per week. Then list your long-term goals.

Diet Tip #2: Create a Plan
Once you’ve got your goals it’s time to come up with a plan to meet those goals. It’s very difficult to accomplish anything without a well structured plan. How are you going to find the time to exercise? When will you prepare your meals? What will you do in the event of a family event or party? A bit of planning in advance will help you to know what to do as you begin to lose weight.

Diet Tip #3: Do Your Research
When you go to lose weight, it’s important to do your research ahead of time. A lot of the dieting tips out there are designed to sell products, not really help you lose. If you want to find good nutrition advice it’s a good idea to take some time to evaluate each diet. For each program you find, ask yourself the following questions:

• Is this program sustainable? Think over how much time will be required to stay on the program including exercising, meal preparation and planning. If the diet eliminates certain foods, will you be able to cope with that for the entire duration of the diet?
• How long is the program and what kind of results are typical? (Note that most testimonials are NOT typical results.)
• In terms of tips diet programs vary – will this program provide you with diet help or are you on your own once you make the purchase?
• Are there required products besides the program you must buy on a regular basis?
• Will you be eating your own food or do you need to purchase prepared foods? How much will food cost on a weekly basis?
• What do others say about the program?
• What is your doctors recommendation?

Diet Tip #4: Fast Weight Loss = More Work Later; Slow Weight Loss = More Work Now
Almost everyone wants to lose weight fast. Here are a few diet tips for fast weight loss:

• Find a program that is of short duration. Plan on spending a significant amount of time after the program determining how to maintain your new weight. The faster you lose the more difficult it is to maintain the loss. The slower you lose the more time you have to invest but the easier it will be to maintain your weight.
• Drink LOTS of water. Water is necessary to help process all the toxins that are released as you lose weight.
• Eliminate all processed foods. If you eliminate foods that contain wheat and sugar and get your carbohydrates from whole food sources like fruit and vegetables you’re likely to drop pounds more quickly.

Fasting Tips
If you decide to lose weight by fasting, be sure to consult a doctor. While a fast of a day or two is unlikely to hurt you there are more extreme programs that should be evaluated by a medical professional. Some fasts can put undue strain on your heart and can be dangerous if you have high blood pressure or other heart related issues.

Talk to your Doctor
Before starting any new program, be sure to consult with your doctor. In addition to evaluating any program you’re considering your doctor can also provide diet and nutrition tips and even know of a program or service that may be of help to you.

Losing weight is a long-term project. A little bit of advanced planning will make the process easier and more successful.
